New single today!!!

Yes, folks, the 3rd single is here and it's called Heart Over Mind.  Originally a country hit in 1961 by Ray Price.  While I've replaced the gentle western swing with hard pounding disco beats, the song remains the same.   I have quite an affinity for vintage country music, and Ray Price is an easy favorite for me.  For the liner note readers here, it was written by Mel Tillis.  Click on the music tab above to get your very own copy!

Heart Over Mind by Tex! from Iowa

I'll be your cowboy!

Today is the day folks!  The arrival of the new single!  Cowboy! is here for you in one handy little download.  3 tracks and a PDF of the sleeve.  All wrapped in Creative Commons goodness, exclusively at texfromiowa.com!  As Kojak says... who loves ya, baby?!

Creative Commons!

Taking a cue from Nine Inch Nails and (more accurately) Jonathan Coulton, I am henceforth releasing all of my original music under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0 uported license!

What the hell does that mean?!

Glad you asked.  It, in a nutshell, means if you just simply LOVE my new song (as you should!) and totally need your BFF to also have the same life-altering experience you just had, then you may provide said BFF with my new song!  Honestly!  Without asking permission!  I'm cool with it.

Even cooler, If you are a podcaster, film maker, or any other creative type and want to use my music as part of your output, you may do so. Honestly!  Without asking permission!  I'm cool with it.

Just don't be a douche.  Give me credit for my part, and don't use it in anything you're gonna make money from and we're good.

That said, It's not like I don't want your money.  I do enjoy eating and paying my bills very much.  All of my music will still be for sale.  If you like it, I hope you will buy it.  But if you just can't part with a buck or two, I'd still rather you have it and enjoy it than not at all.

So... In case I didn't explain that clearly or use enough legal lingo:

Double Rats!!!!!

Being the Scooter über-fanboy that I am, I thought I'd share a bit of what went down in Berlin on Saturday.  With any luck, they'll do some onesy dates here in the states again.  Until then, I reiterate...  Double rats!!!!

Rats!!!

I tried my darndest to get to the Arena Berlin to see the mighty Scooter live for the fourth time, but it was not meant to be.  $900 to Berlin is a bit too spendy for my overalls at the moment.  Lousy airlines!  This ad doesn't improve my mood at all.

Sophie saga update!

Still scratching my head as to why official sites can't play official music, I started digging.

It turns out Me And My Imagination IS viewable from Sophie's VEVO channel.  http://www.youtube.com/user/SEllisBextorVEVO

What I'm confused about is the description of what Vevo is.  Good ole Wikipedia says... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vevo

The big four (Universal, Sony, Warner and EMI) apparently had problems with the "competition that music videos have on YouTube."  Sony and Universal then start Vevo.  All video hosting is done through... wait for it... YOUTUBE!  Furthermore, it's only viewable in the US and Canada.  Um, What?!

To summarize again: Big four don't like YouTube.  Make thier own YouTube... hosted by YouTube.  Now they can "non-competitvely" promote their global music to two countries... Instead of YouTube's worldwide reach.

Anyway... I hope you enjoy Sophie's fantastic video and even better song as much as I do!

p.s. I'm openly welcoming a sane explanation for all of this.  Please make sense of it for me.

Now THIS is stupid!

In case you haven't heard of any bad decisions from the record industry lately...

I was perusing YouTube today for a look at Sophie Ellis Bextor's Me And My Imagination video.  I heard it in my car (on the iPod, no radio stations that cool remotely near me) and wanted to see the rather not ugly Sophie sing it to me herself.  So I find her very official page at http://www.youtube.com/user/sophieellisbextortv.  I scroll down to find said video and am greeted with "This video contains content from UMG.  It is no longer available."  WTF?!  I clicked on a few more and received the same message.  Um, what?

I am going to point out that Ms. Bextor is singed to Polydor Records.  ...WHICH IS OWNED BY UNIVERSAL!!!  She's been on Polydor/Universal from day one!!!

To summarize:  Sophie Ellis Bextor.  Hot.  Great singer.  Singed to world's biggest record company.  DOES NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO PLAY HER OWN VIDEOS ON HER OWN OFFICIAL YOUTUBE PAGE!!!!!!!!!

In keeping PC, this may have a simple explanation (if so, please enlighten me), but I'm smelling another unbelievably asinine move by the big record labels.

Unglaublich!!!!
